Montenegro is a fabulously beautiful country. Here's what lies behind our favourite pictures.

1) St Nicholas Orthodox Church in Kotor

The crowds of tourists rush to see its façade and interior, but the view from behind is well worth the detour. With its old stones and its rounded architecture, we made the most of the setting sun to take a really beautiful photo.

2) Lovćen National Park

Perched on top of a mountain in the heart of a superb national park, the Njegoš Mausoleum is the highest in the world. Here you can admire the tomb of Petar II Petrović-Njegoš in a superb building that seems outside time. Our soft spot for flags flapping in the wind led us to pick this shot.

3) The Budva dancer

Frozen on the shoreline since 1965, the Budva ballerina was created by Gradimir Aleksić to immortalise a local legend: a desperate lover waiting for her sailor who will never return.
